Project Overview

For my project, I designed The Book Haven, a high-fidelity, mobile-first UI/UX prototype to "re-enchant" the local library and transform it from an outdated utility into an engaging, modern experience. My core design philosophy was "Digital Humanism," which meant I focused on blending the warmth of a physical library with the efficiency of a digital app. I implemented this philosophy visually through a warm, earthy color palette (Terracotta and Sage), an elegant Playfair Display/Inter typography pairing, and custom illustrations I included to make the app feel more inviting. My app solves the core user problems of "what's available?" and "how do I borrow?" by delivering on a "Goodreads × Swiggy × Community Hub" concept. I demonstrated this solution across three key screens I built: a Discover page with smart filters; a Book Details page with a one-click "Borrow" system; and a personal My Library dashboard that I designed to clearly track due dates and reading progress. I wrapped the entire experience in an intuitive, app-like bottom-bar navigation and have fully documented my design process in the repository. You can interact with my live prototype here: https://shreyasd2006.github.io/Library_Mobile/ — for the best experience, please view it on a mobile device or in your browser's mobile-first inspection tool (if it looks like the desktop site on your phone, please uncheck "Show desktop site" in your browser settings).

Key Features

Smart Discovery Engine

This feature directly solves the user's "what do I read?" struggle. It combines a smart search bar (with author, title, and genre suggestions) with interactive filter tags and community-driven "Reading Challenge" carousels. The UX is designed to make browsing feel tactile and engaging, mimicking the joy of serendipitous discovery in a real library.

Personal Reading Dashboard

This is the core problem-solver for the "outdated library" feel. The "My Library" screen acts as a personal dashboard that clearly shows active borrows, tracks due dates with visual warnings, and even displays reading progress. It gives users a single, simple, and efficient hub to manage their reading, removing the anxiety of a confusing borrowing system.

One-Click Borrowing & Reservation

To make borrowing "effortless," this feature simplifies the primary call to action. The Book Details screen shows real-time availability ("Available" or "Unavailable"). Based on this status, the user is presented with a clear "Borrow This Book" or "Reserve Book" button, which leads to a simple confirmation modal. This UX flow removes all friction and feels as responsive and simple as a modern e-commerce app.

"Digital Humanism" Design System

This project is built on a complete, documented design system. The "Digital Humanism" philosophy uses a warm, earthy color palette (Terracotta, Sage, and Cream) and an elegant/readable typography pairing (Playfair Display & Inter) to create an experience that feels inviting, consistent, and visually appealing, directly addressing the "warm and friendly" design brief.
