📚 Books / Ideas That Shaped Me

Steal Like an Artist

— Austin Kleon, Published in 2012, based on Kleon’s keynote speech at The Broome Community College

This book reshaped my understanding of creativity by breaking down the myth of originality. It made me realize that innovation often comes from remixing, reinterpreting, and reimagining ideas that already exist. The simplicity and honesty in Kleon’s words gave me permission to embrace inspiration from others without guilt and instead focus on adding my voice to the conversation. It influenced the way I approach design and creative problem-solving. I began looking at design patterns, trends, and references as fuel rather than limitation. It helped me move faster in my creative process, let go of perfectionism, and build more confidently by focusing on execution rather than waiting for the “perfect idea.” This mindset shift was pivotal in growing my visual design identity.
