Overview

Many clinics and hospitals still manage patient queues manually, leading to long waiting times, confusion about token order, and poor patient experience. Receptionists find it difficult to track patients efficiently, while patients often have no visibility into how long they must wait. The need was to create a simple digital token management system that automates queue handling, displays the current token being served, and provides estimated waiting times through real-time updates. This solution helps reduce crowding, improves operational efficiency, and enhances patient satisfaction. Process The project began by analyzing patient queue management in clinics and identifying issues such as manual token tracking and unclear waiting times. A web-based solution was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for receptionist and patient users. To enable real-time updates, Local Storage and Storage Events were implemented, allowing instant synchronization between screens. The system was tested for token generation, queue management, and wait-time estimation, resulting in an efficient live queue management solution without a backend database. Results The Clinic Token Management System digitized patient queue management with real-time token updates and wait-time estimation. It improved queue transparency, reduced manual errors, and provided a user-friendly experience without requiring a backend database. Reflection Given more time, I would add a cloud database, SMS/WhatsApp notifications, QR code tokens, doctor-wise queue management, and an analytics dashboard to make the system more scalable and suitable for real-world deployment.
