IPL Crunch ’26: IPL Match Data Analysis & Insights
IPL fans and analysts often rely on opinions rather than data to understand match outcomes. There was a need to analyze real IPL ball-by-ball data to uncover patterns in toss decisions, match phases, and player performance to understand what truly impacts winning matches. Process I started by collecting IPL ball-by-ball data from Cricsheet and structured it for analysis. Then I cleaned and organized the dataset using Excel to remove inconsistencies and missing values. After that, I performed exploratory data analysis to identify trends in toss outcomes, match phases, and player performances. I created visualizations like bar charts and pie charts to better understand patterns. Finally, I interpreted the results to extract meaningful insights and validated findings through comparison across multiple matches and seasons. Results The analysis revealed that winning the toss does not guarantee victory, as it only has a slight advantage. Death overs were found to have the highest impact on match outcomes. Consistent performers significantly influenced team success across seasons. The project helped identify over 20 meaningful match trends using data visualization techniques. Reflection I would include more advanced statistical models and machine learning techniques to predict match outcomes more accurately. I would also analyze venue-wise and condition-based performance for deeper insights. Additionally, I would automate the data cleaning process to improve efficiency and scalability.
