QueueSync – Real-Time Smart Hospital Queue Management System

Patients in hospitals often have little visibility into queue progress, leading to repeated inquiries at reception and uncertainty about waiting times. Many small clinics still rely on manual queue handling, making communication inefficient. QueueSync was developed to provide a real-time queue management system that allows receptionists to manage tokens while enabling patients to track their status, queue position and estimated wait time independently. Process I pinpointed the major stages of waiting for treatment in a hospital, which include registration, queue management, token generation and calculation of wait times. The first prototype operated based on state management within a local context and was operable on a single screen only. To make my web application more accessible, I designed separate interfaces for receptionists and patients and ensured synchronization in real-time through the Socket.IO library. The initial wait time calculation was done considering the pre-defined consultation time, but I later used real consultation time for that purpose. Results QueueSync is able to synchronize queues between patient and receptionist in real time. With QueueSync, patients will be able to monitor the status of their token, see their position in the queue, and get estimated waiting times. The receptionist, on the other hand, is able to manage the token from a central dashboard Reflection I would include MongoDB database to help save queues and consultations records even when the server crashes. That way, it would become applicable in real-world situations as well as allow for analysis over a longer period of time. Moreover, I would introduce role based authentication for the receptionist, support several doctors and consultation rooms and introduce automated messages to notify clients of their incoming turn. And to accumulate more data about consultations and use machine learning agorithms to provide accurate predictions of the waiting time
