Overview
Patients often experience long and uncertain waiting times in hospitals due to inefficient queue management and lack of real-time updates. Many patients repeatedly visit reception desks to check their queue status, creating congestion and increasing staff workload. Hospital administrators also struggle to monitor patient flow effectively, leading to delays, overcrowded waiting areas, and reduced patient satisfaction. Process I started by identifying common pain points in hospital waiting experiences through user research and competitor analysis. Patients wanted transparency about their queue position and estimated waiting time, while staff needed a simpler way to manage appointments and walk-in visitors. I mapped the patient journey from arrival to consultation and identified bottlenecks in the check-in and waiting process. Initial concepts focused on a basic digital token system, but testing showed that users also needed live status updates and notifications. Based on feedback, I designed Que Quire with self-check-in, real-time queue tracking, appointment management, and automated notifications. Multiple iterations were created to simplify navigation, reduce user effort, and improve visibility of queue info Results The final solution improved transparency in the waiting process and reduced uncertainty for patients. Usability testing showed that users could easily check their queue status and complete self-check-in without assistance. The solution reduced reception desk inquiries, improved patient satisfaction, and streamlined hospital operations through better queue visibility and management. Reflection With additional time, I would conduct larger-scale testing with hospital staff and patients, integrate predictive wait-time estimation using AI, and add multilingual support to improve accessibility for diverse user groups. I would also explore integration with hospital management systems for seamless appointment synchronization.
