Overview
76% of clinics still rely on paper tokens and manual queue handling, causing long waiting times, lack of visibility for patients, and inefficient queue management for reception staff. Process 1. Receptionist adds a patient. 2. System automatically generates a token. 3. Patient is added to the waiting queue. 4. Queue data is stored and managed on the server. 5. Receptionist calls the next token when consultation is completed. 6. Socket.IO instantly broadcasts updates. 7. Patient display updates in real time. 8. Estimated wait time is recalculated dynamically. Results Successfully developed and deployed a real-time clinic queue management system with synchronized receptionist and patient dashboards. The application achieved instant queue updates using Socket.IO, improved queue visibility, and provided dynamic wait-time estimation without requiring page refreshes. Reflection If given more time, I would add database persistence, support for multiple doctors and clinics, appointment scheduling, SMS/WhatsApp notifications, and advanced analytics to make the system production-ready and scalable for real-world healthcare environments.
