IPL Crunch Analysis

IPL is one of the loved tournaments in India, and across the world. Many people have different opinions about different factors which finally leads to wining and losing a particular match by a team. But the opinions are not backed by data, correlation or stats that genuinely shows the trend, and help reach a conclusion. Process I first started by understanding the data as provided, about unique seasons, per ball data, total runs and many more. For getting toss results and win rate over it, I worked with the columns and took out the mean for the teams which are winners as well as toss winners. And then, I was able to plot the toss vs win rate bar graph. After that, I worked out the balls data, and categorized section with powerplay, middle and death, for different sections of the overs. And on that, I did the average of runs for winner and loser team and also correlated the data with winning to find out which one is more related to winning. After that, I calculated the total runs of batsmen across season and valid wickets by ballers, and plotted the top 5 ballers and batters. And then I put it on streamlit. Results The win rate of toss winners is 50.49 and that of toss losers is 40.50. The win rate of toss winners and toss losers is almost same, but vary slightly with a margin of around 1%. Across the seasons, the average of correlation of powerplay with runs is 0.230 and that of middle overs is 0.226, and of death overs is 0.0401. This describes that powerplay is mostly linked to wining, but both powerplay and middle overs are important for wining. The top 5 batters are - V.Kohli, RG Sharma, S Dhawan, DA Warner and KL Rahul. And the top 5 ballers are - YS Chahal,B Kumar,SP Narine,JJ Bumrah & DJ Bravo. Reflection I would like to do the unique finding part more deeply. So that I can find more stats like economics, etc, and correlated them among other factors, to find more about the data.
