QueueCure — Real-Time Digital Queue System for Clinics

Over 80% of Indian clinics still use paper tokens. Patients sit in crowded waiting rooms with zero visibility into wait times. Receptionists are constantly interrupted by "How much longer?" questions. Emergency cases can't be prioritized without causing confusion. Tokens are called by shouting, so patients in hallways miss their turn. Clinics have no data to measure consultation times or peak hours. QueueCure digitizes this entire workflow using just a laptop and a TV screen. Process 1. Research: Studied real clinic waiting rooms. Found 3 pain points — no transparency for patients, no emergency handling, zero analytics for staff. 2. Database-first design: Built a PostgreSQL schema where all analytics derive from timestamp columns (created_at, called_at, completed_at) — no extra table needed. 3. Core loop: Built receptionist portal and TV display simultaneously via Supabase Realtime websockets. Added 3-second polling fallback when websockets alone proved unreliable. 4. Polish: Added priority routing, "Edited" transparency badges, voice announcements (SpeechSynthesis API), and Recharts analytics after the core loop was working. What didn't work: Relying solely on websockets — polling fallback fixed it. Results Zero-refresh real-time sync: TV display updates within 3 seconds of any action, achieving 100% data consistency across screens. Voice announcements auto-call tokens aloud, eliminating manual shouting — tested on Chrome and Edge. Priority-flagged patients instantly jump to front of queue with a visible badge. "Edited" badge permanently marks name corrections, preventing silent queue manipulation. Live analytics dashboard tracks hourly patient throughput and compares estimated vs. actual wait times, helping clinics improve scheduling accuracy over time. Reflection 1. Replace the client-side PIN with Supabase Auth and Row Level Security for production-grade access control. 2. Add SMS/WhatsApp alerts when patients are 2-3 spots away, so they can wait outside instead of in a crowded room. 3. Build a QR-code self-check-in kiosk to remove the receptionist bottleneck for returning patients. 4. Conduct user testing with actual clinic staff earlier to validate the UI workflow before building, rather than iterating during development. 5. Add multi-department routing for clinics with multiple doctors, labs, and pharmacies.
