Queue Cure '26 is a beginner-friendly Full Stack hackathon hosted on Wooble — India's portfolio-first hiring platform where builders get hired on what they build, not what their resume says. What to build: Screen 1 — Receptionist view: Add patient, call next token, set average consultation time Screen 2 — Patient waiting room view: Current token being seen, tokens ahead, estimated wait Live sync — both screens update the moment "Call Next" is clicked Process Designed the API contract first — wrote the OpenAPI spec covering patients, queue, settings, and announcements, then ran codegen to produce typed React Query hooks and Zod validators automatically. Built the database and backend — created Drizzle ORM schemas for three tables (patients, clinic_settings, announcements), wired up Express 5 route handlers with full validation, and mounted Socket.IO on the same HTTP server to emit queue:updated on every queue change. Built the frontend with a design subagent — generated two views (Patient Display at / and Receptionist Dashboard at /receptionist) using the auto-generated hooks, with real-time cache invalidation triggered by Socket.IO events and a 5-second polling fallback. Patients can track their position in the queue, view estimated waiting times, and receive instant updates, while receptionists efficiently manage tokens and consultations. The solution reduces uncertainty, improves operational efficiency, enhances patient satisfaction, and creates a transparent healthcare waiting experience. Reflection I would enhance the system with AI-based wait-time prediction, automated patient notifications, multi-doctor queue management, and real-world user testing to improve accuracy, scalability, and overall user experience.
