The situation

Rohan MehtaCo-founder, Ankurit Learning

Hi, and welcome aboard!

Our accountant left last week, just before the month closed, and the auditors come in on Monday. September's bank statement has every payment we made, and none of it is categorised.

I need two things from you:

  1. Every transaction in the right category, using our expense policy (it's in the handbook): payroll, operations, marketing, personal, investments or reimbursements.
  2. Anything that shouldn't have happened: money that went out twice, to the wrong person, or without approval.

And three numbers for the board deck:

  • What we spent on marketing in September.
  • What we paid out in reimbursements.
  • How much went on personal things from company accounts. We'll have to recover all of it.

Use any tools you like, AI included. Write down anything you weren't sure about.

Thanks, Rohan

When you start, you get Ankurit Learning's handbook and your own data: the same story as everyone else's, with different records, so your answers are yours alone.

What you hand in

  1. 1Marketing spend: Everything classified as marketing in September (in whole rupees)
  2. 2Reimbursements paid: Everything classified as reimbursements (in whole rupees)
  3. 3Personal, to recover: Everything classified as personal (in whole rupees)
  4. 4Ledger: A table with two columns, transaction_id and category, uploaded as a CSV or pasted.
  5. 5Exceptions: A table with two columns, record_id and cause, uploaded as a CSV or pasted.
  6. 6Your working: The spreadsheet, SQL or notebook that produces your answers, as a link anyone can open.
  7. 7A note to Rohan: 200 words at most.
  8. 8How you used AI: Your prompts or the chat, if you used it.

Your figures, your ledger and your exceptions are checked against your own data the moment you hand in. The pass mark is 70 of 100, and personal spending to recover must be right. Hand in as often as you need; every hand-in is counted.

What passing earns
