The situation

Farah QureshiHead of Growth, Gudmeetha Foods

Morning, and welcome to the team!

September's numbers are in and they don't make sense to me. The dashboard says we took more orders than in August, but the money in the bank says revenue went down. The founders want an answer at Thursday's review.

Can you get to the bottom of it? I need:

  • How much net revenue changed from August to September, in rupees.
  • How many more (or fewer) orders we took.
  • Our average order value in September.
  • Which city the fall came from.
  • Why: what changed there.

All the order data since July is attached. Please use our definitions (they're in the handbook): last quarter two people got two different revenue numbers and we lost a morning arguing about it.

Use any tools you like, AI included. Tell me what you'd do about it, in a short note.

Thanks, Farah

When you start, you get Gudmeetha Foods's handbook and your own data: the same story as everyone else's, with different records, so your answers are yours alone.

What you hand in

  1. 1Change in net revenue: September's net revenue less August's, in rupees (negative if it fell) (in whole rupees)
  2. 2Change in orders: September's orders less August's (a count)
  3. 3September AOV: September's average order value, in rupees (in whole rupees)
  4. 4Where the fall came from: Which city's net revenue fell the most from August to September?
  5. 5Why it fell there: In that city, what explains revenue falling while orders rose?
  6. 6Your working: The spreadsheet, SQL or notebook that produces your answers, as a link anyone can open.
  7. 7A note to Farah: 200 words at most.
  8. 8How you used AI: Your prompts or the chat, if you used it.

Your figures and your conclusions are checked against your own data the moment you hand in. The pass mark is 70 of 100, and the change in net revenue must be right. Hand in as often as you need; every hand-in is counted.
