The BRSR Reporting Portal

Nine principles. Hundreds of data points. Forty departments. One deadline. Currently held together by a spreadsheet named "FINAL_v7_use_this_one".

Evaluation only · Open

Develop an online portal for BRSR reporting of corporate ESG reports — a system that collects, validates, consolidates and generates a company's Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report in the SEBI-prescribed structure, with the evidence trail intact and the assurance process survivable.

Overview

Outcomes - BRSR data collected once, from the right owner, in the right format, instead of chased over email for six weeks - Built-in validation that catches contradictions and missing disclosures before the auditor does - A generated, submission-ready BRSR in the prescribed sectional structure - A complete evidence and audit trail supporting assurance on the BRSR Core KPIs - Year-on-year comparability, so this year's report is not built from scratch again Overview SEBI mandates the top listed entities by market capitalisation to disclose ESG performance in the BRSR format, which is organised into Section A (general disclosures about the entity, its products, operations, employees, group structure, CSR and compliance), Section B (management and process disclosures), and Section C (principle-wise performance across the nine National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct principles, covering governance, sustainable products, employee wellbeing, stakeholder interest, human rights, environment, public policy conduct, equitable development and customer responsibility). BRSR also exists in Comprehensive, Lite and Core variants, and the Core KPIs carry an assurance requirement. All of this is currently assembled, at most companies, by human beings with spreadsheets and a deep sense of fatigue. The Story It is week three of reporting season. The sustainability lead has emailed forty-one people. Nineteen have replied. Four sent PDFs of scanned tables. One sent last year's numbers with the year changed. The energy consumption figure in Section C does not reconcile with the operations data in Section A, and nobody can remember which one came from the plant and which one came from a guess. The auditor arrives Monday. Build the thing that makes this Tuesday instead of a crisis.

The brief

  • Maps the full BRSR disclosure structure — Section A, Section B, and Section C across all nine NGRBC principles — into structured, assignable data fields rather than a document to be typed into
  • Distributes data collection to the actual owners across departments, plants and subsidiaries, with role-based access, deadlines, reminders and submission status tracking
  • Validates entries automatically: mandatory field checks, unit consistency, year-on-year variance flags, internal cross-section reconciliation, and range checks against the previous filing
  • Maintains an evidence and audit trail — supporting documents, who entered what, when, and what changed — sufficient to support assurance of the BRSR Core KPIs
  • Generates the consolidated report in the prescribed format, and supports Comprehensive, Lite or Core scope depending on which applies to the entity
  • Provides a management dashboard: completion status by section and principle, open exceptions, ESG KPI trends across reporting years, and readiness for assurance
  • Optionally applies AI to extract values from supporting documents, flag anomalous or improbable entries, draft qualitative narrative disclosures from underlying data, or answer "where did this number come from" queries
  • Use only publicly available BRSR formats, published corporate reports or synthetic company data. Do not use confidential corporate information. Where the portal generates narrative text, the output must be reviewable and editable by a human — the filing is a regulatory document, not a creative writing exercise

Deliverables

  • A working portal implementing the BRSR structure across Section A, Section B and Section C with the nine principles represented
  • A multi-user data collection workflow with role-based assignment, status tracking and reminders, demonstrated across at least three simulated departments or plants
  • An automated validation engine, with a demonstration of it catching missing, inconsistent and improbable entries
  • Report generation in the prescribed format plus a management dashboard covering completion status, exceptions and multi-year KPI trends
  • An evidence and audit-trail module, with a documented account of how the system would support assurance on BRSR Core KPIs
