Overview

Hosted by Google DeepMind on Kaggle, this competition challenges participants to develop AI agents that can independently navigate software repositories and propose solutions to real-world coding issues. Participants will explore fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, code comprehension, and agent design to improve software engineering workflows using local models.

Problem statement

Objective: Post-train the supported Gemma 4 model to build a reliable autonomous software engineering agent.

Expected Solution:

Navigate complex code repositories.

Identify bugs and software issues.

Generate patches that pass validation tests.

Improve agent reliability and code comprehension.

Deliverables

  • submission.zip containing the agent configuration
  • agent.yaml at the root of the archive
  • System prompts, custom tools, skills, and optional LoRA adapters
  • A submission compatible with the competition harness

Evaluation criteria

  • Submissions are evaluated using a pass/fail metric. The overall score is the percentage of patched repositories that pass their validation tests.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the objective?

Build an autonomous coding agent that can navigate repositories and generate working code fixes.

  • Which model is required?

The supported Gemma 4 model variant specified in the competition rules.

  • How are submissions evaluated?

By the percentage of patched repositories that pass validation tests.

  • What is the submission format?

A ZIP archive named submission.zip, with agent.yaml at its root.

  • Are LoRA adapters mandatory?

    No. They are optional.

  • Is there a research paper track?

Yes. It is optional and has a separate $35,000 award pool.

  • What is the final submission deadline?

    2 December 2026, at 11:59 PM UTC.

  • Will submissions be listed on Wooble?

Selected submissions may be listed on Wooble for project visibility and portfolio purposes. This listing is separate from the official Kaggle competition evaluation.
